Handcrafted with Love in the heart of the Smoky Mountains!Herbal Salves, Soaps & more, with a purpose, that work!I started Mountain Lore in May of 2006. The idea for it actually started around 1990 when I used to live in Connecticut and had just started learning about things herbal. But then I moved to South Florida and was not an outdoor person anymore because of the heat and humidity. I met and married my husband and had 2 children and worked full time so there was not a lot of time leftover. So now 15 years later we've moved to the mountains of Western North Carolina and I now work from home. I'm outdoors a lot now and I started rediscovering my roots and my herbal knowledge. I started drinking my MAH Pain Tea about 25 years ago and it's the only thing that works for my migraine headaches. I also discovered what a wonderful remedy Jewelweed was for poison ivy back in 1990 just before I left Connecticut, but I never got to do anything with it because it doesn't grow in South Florida. So now I'm working with herbs again, mostly from my own land. A friend of mine recently told me "well you're just turning into Mother Earth". Well, I don't know about that but I feel very contented and at peace these days. My universe is teaching me about the herbs I need to learn about when I need to know about them. I'm learning so much and still have so much to learn but I'm having fun doing it. I harvest most of the herbs I use myself. I don't use any chemicals or pesticides on my land so all the herbs I harvest at home are organic. I make all my products myself. I don't use any chemical coloring or dyes. The salves and soaps are their own natural color from the herbs they are made from. My products are not tested on animals. All salves are only put into glass jars, never in plastic or metal containers. To our friends and family, thank you for supporting us and passing our info along. We appreciate it. News News News 5/28/2008: You can now find Mountain Lore at Uncle Bill's Flea Market in Whittier, NC. For now I am there on Sundays. After June 10th, I will be there on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. 11/12/2007: Update, Mountain Lore is no longer at the Biltmore Square Mall. We were only there for 2-1/2 weeks and sustained a loss. For now the only way you can purchase Mountain Lore products is thru this website. I ship nationwide and will deliver locally in Haywood & Buncombe Counties. You can also check our "where to find" page or email me to see what stores are carrying ML products. 9/10/2007: Ok, here we grow again. I'm closing the store in Maggie Valley and moving my herbal business to a cart at the Biltmore Square Mall in Asheville, NC as of October 1, 2007. Our main product will be my Soap on a Brush available in about 12 different varieties of soap, including yogurt soap, hemp oil soap and soya milk soap to name a few. We will also have those same varieties available in a bar soap to go with it for a great gift set. We will also be offering "Build-A-Basket' service at the mall. You buy the basket ($2 to $5) and pick what you want to put in it and we put it together for you so you have a custom basket with just what you want in it. What a great gift idea for Christmas! We will also have gift bags available (after Thanksgiving) so you can have your purchase ready to give as a gift. 7/28/2007: So much has happened since I last updated the site. We've grown tremendously. I've opened up a store and my herbal line has probably tripled in size. I've invented Soap on a Brush and it is patent pending. I've created some other things too that I will also be patenting. The store is located at 4948 Soco Rd. in beautiful Maggie Valley, North Carolina.
It's about 1,000 square feet and was just too big for me to fill up with my herbal items so I decided to fall back on my antique and collectibles background. So it has a nice ecclectic mix of decor, herbals and more. It has the look and feel of an antique store because I didn't want to be like every other store in town and I've achieved that. We have consignment items from local crafters as well as authentic American Indian made items by a local Indian named Whispering Spirit. She does beautiful work. We've made lots of name changes too: PI+ Remedy is now called Itch & Boo Boo Salve & Soap, AF Remedy is now called Athlete's Foot Salve (aka Cowboy's Foot Salve and Redneck's Foot Salve), MAH Remedies are now called MAH Pain Salve and MAH Pain Tea. New items: Scentual Patchouli Salve is an antiseptic healing salve that promotes cell rejuvenation and skin tightening, Scentual Patchouli Milk Baths & Pillow Sachets, Body Mists, Airomatherapy Fresheners and Reed Diffusers in awesome scents, Oatmeal Milk & Honey Face Bars made with real oatmeal, milk and honey, guest size soaps in various scents, "Dirty" Shower Salts (read about them on the Salts page), Honey Soap Cakes, Soap Teddies, Soap Scrubbies and last but not least our patent pending Soap on a Brush. |
